Speech and Debate Program

Division: Language Arts

The Speech and Debate Program gives students opportunities to develop speeches, performances, or train for debates at tournaments locally, statewide, nation-wide. Travel accommodations and tournament fees are paid by Cypress College. This award-winning program is available to novices or experienced students. Students earn transfer credit by enrolling in either COMM 138 C or COMM 238 C classes that are held from 2:40-5:50pm on Tuesday afternoons. Students can also earn variable unit credit through COMM 298 C. For more information, please contact Professor Joshua House (jhouse@cypresscollege.edu) or Professor Jennifer Page (jpage@cypresscollege.edu), or by visiting them in their office in the Humanities Building, Room 204. This is a great experience for students, developing skills that will help them both academically and later in their careers, even though they may not be Communication Studies majors.
