The ESL for Cultural Exploration CDCP program is for advanced English learners who wish to continue building fluency in English through cultural topics. The program has one required course (ESL and American Culture and Customs) and one elective course of which there are four choices: ESL and American Humor and Slang, ESL for Media Studies, ESL and American Literature, and ESL for Popular Culture Studies.

ESLA 1100 ESL and American Culture and Customs 54 Hours
In this advanced ESL course, students will build English fluency and critical thinking skills through discovery and analysis of American culture and customs. (Apportionment)
ESLA 1101 ESL and American Humor and Slang 36 Hours
In this advanced ESL course, students will build English fluency skills while developing the use and understanding of American humor and slang. Students will use and analyze humor and slang through authentic materials like media and TV/film clips. (Apportionment)
ESLA 1102 ESL for Media Studies 36 Hours
In this advanced ESL course, students build English fluency and critical thinking skills through the study and analysis of mass media. This course will focus on defining and analyzing a variety of media sources as well as reflecting on personal media consumption and media literacy. (Apportionment)
ESLA 1103 ESL and American Literature 54-108 Hours
In this advanced level English as a Second Language course, students will build English fluency in reading, writing, speaking and listening while learning about and reading original American literature texts. Students will read, discuss and write about this literature from a historical context. (Apportionment)
ESLA 1104 ESL for Popular Culture Studies 72 Hours
In this advanced ESL course, students will build English fluency skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking through the examination of popular culture, including what it is, how it is transmitted, and how it reflects and shapes many aspects of life. (Apportionment)
