General Education Certification

Fullerton College is authorized to offer the Cal-GETC (California General Education Transfer Curriculum) certification pattern. Cal-GETC is a 34-unit general education pattern that fulfills the lower-division general education requirements for transfer to either the California State University (CSU) or the University of California (UC) for most majors.

Students who have established catalog rights under earlier requirements may still be eligible to complete CSU General Education Breadth or IGETC certification. Students should meet with a counselor for further details to determine the most appropriate general education certification pattern based on their catalog rights, transfer institution, major, and educational goals.

Certification means Fullerton College has determined these requirements have been met and a notation is made on the transcript. If a student transfers without certification, the university may require the student to complete additional lower-division general education requirements.

There are no catalog rights for certification. A course must be on the appropriate general education list at the time it is successfully completed.

Important Note: Selecting a general education plan requires careful planning. Certification is not always advantageous for every student. Students planning to transfer should meet with a counselor to determine the most appropriate certification pattern and course selection. Students who do not seek counseling may complete courses that do not apply to their intended transfer institution or major, which could complicate or delay transfer.

Students who complete a general education certification pattern must request a certification evaluation to be included with their transcript when it is sent to the university. (Refer to the Transcripts section for additional information.)
