Psychiatric Technology Associate in Science Degree

While the state of California does not require an Associate Degree for licensure as a Psychiatric Technician, the student may elect to earn one. To earn a Psychiatric Technology Associate in Science Degree student must complete:1) all major course requirements with a grade of C or better; (2) Cypress College Local General Education requirements or the California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC) requirements; (3) any elective courses to complete a minimum of 60 units; and, (4) have a minimum GPA of 2.0. At least 50% of all major course work must be completed at Cypress College. This degree requires 55.5 units in the major (required courses are listed in sequence) in addition to other graduation requirements. Note: a) Must obtain live scan clearance at FBI and DOJ level before the start of the program. b) A current American Heart Association (AHA) cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) card must be maintained by all students admitted to the program, along with a completion of a physical exam, immunizations and clearance to perform clinical work.

Program Student Learning Outcomes:
OUTCOME 1: Acquire the workforce preparation skills, including basic nursing care, participation in treatment plan development/evaluation, administration of care, medication administration, psychosocial assessment/interventions, behavior management and legal/professional responsibilities necessary to become a safe and competent practitioner in the field of psychiatric technology.
