Credit for Prior Learning or Non-Collegiate Instruction

Cypress College grants up to 30 units of undergraduate degree credit for successful completion of non-collegiate instruction, either military or civilian, appropriate to the baccalaureate for learning, knowledge or skills-based experience, or that has been recommended by the Commission on Educational Credit and Credentials of the American Council on Education.

Students who have at least one year of active military service may be granted 4–12 units of undergraduate credit. Every effort should be made to assure that “military” credit is used to advance individuals toward degree completion.

Requests for Credit for Prior Learning will be evaluated individually. Students should see a counselor for further information regarding military credit.

Prior Completion of General Education

Students with an earned associate, baccalaureate or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning will not be required to complete any additional general education coursework to earn an Associate degree. Students who have been admitted to a Bachelor Degree program at Cypress College and who have already earned a baccalaureate or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education shall not be required to complete additional upper division general education requirements and shall be required to complete only the coursework necessary for graduation.
